Workout of the Day

Your Rules

It’s worth remembering that the rules that exist from some outside entity -- from a large governing body or a municipality, within a business, in a sporting event, etc. -- are generally good enough to keep the peace and a baseline of competence and not much more. In other words, you’re probably not going to touch on excellence simply by following these rules. At best, external rules will help you achieve status quo. For anything beyond this, it will be up to you to devise your own rules to follow. Drew Brees, for example, didn’t reach number one in career passing yards just by following the rules of the game of American football. Your own excellence will be born out the rules and parameters you create for yourself and, more importantly, your ability to follow them.

What rules can you create to lead you to excellence at your own game? And what parameters can you set to help you follow these rules?
