We are all running out of time...sad but true.
How you choose to view that fact is almost entirely up to you. Even more importantly, what will you choose to do about it?
You see there is a moment in every persons life where there is a realization that time has run out. Now it doesn't have to be a devastating or debilitating experience, but rest assured it will arrive one day. For me it arrived one day at the chalk tray as I stared at the high bar. I looked up and realized that I had run out of time. It was hard to swallow the truth and it took me awhile to truly submit to the concept of moving on without gymnastics. Moving on without the gratification of achieving my highest expectations.
Every thing turned out okay though and here is why.
The truth is that my goals had changed and all of the sudden I had prioritized something else to sit in front of gymnastics. It wasn't a bad thing it just happened and I don't have any regrets about it. I get to look back on that time and smile about it all, because I tried, I committed and I trained. What would have happened if I didn't listen to that inner monologue telling me to really put myself out there and do the uncomfortable?
I would have been left to wonder "What if?"
In fact, if I attempted to go back and try the things I tried back then I would assuredly break myself in two. The best part is that I don't need to, because I already tried.
A good friend of mine posted a quote recently, one that really held a lot meaning for me.
"One day you'll wake up and there won't be anymore time to do the things you've always wanted. Do it now." - Paolo Coelho
Don't wait friends...start now and enjoy the journey.
