Workout of the Day

Parking Lot Preacher

temp-post-image

The other morning, I noticed a gentleman in the beach parking lot talking at his phone screen; from the little that I overheard, it was clear he was delivering a video post for his social media followers, something to do with fitness.

My thoughts went two directions.

First, how wonderful it is that we can send and receive information and ideas at any time and in most any place. This guy may have just delivered something to his followers that makes a big impact on someone’s life, and he was able to do it in the span of a few minutes in the parking lot after finishing up a morning surf.

Second, our responsibility to discern quality in this world of infinite access and information overload is greater than ever before. Without knowing who this guy was or the details of what he said, he could very well have been an informed, thoughtful, and impactful leader in the fitness space, or he could just be a guy with an iPhone and absolutely no idea what he’s talking about.

We all know the sarcastic aphorism that “if you found it on the internet, it must be true.” Ultimately, this task of discernment falls on you the individual.

Don’t forget to question everything you read/watch/hear (this included!), always look a few steps deeper, make sure your resources can account for the “why” behind the messages they teach.

There’s lots of good out there, you just have to find it.
