Every year, the CrossFit community at large participates in the worldwide competition known as the CrossFit Open. Five weeks, five workouts, and one massive opportunity to test your training. The most powerful thing about the CrossFit Open, in my mind, is not that it’s the first step towards top-level competitors reaching the CrossFit Games, or how hard the workouts are, but the inclusive nature of the whole thing. Events are completed at local gyms or even at home, participants have the option to participate in scaled or “RX’d” divisions, as well as against participants in their age group, and the ultimate goal is not an ego-derived showdown, but a chance to test your training, your capacities, and your grit. This ultimately equates to participants of all levels, training experiences, and walks of life participating in a shared endeavor in a way that is not seen in any other competitive arena.
Our own personal flavor of the CrossFit Open manifests with two primary purposes: to participate in the accountability that comes with testing out training in the arena of competition, and to enjoy community, comradery, and fun in the context of a shared experience doing the hard thing. Every Friday night during the Open, we gather to work hard, laugh hard, cheer hard, and share a casual potluck-style meal together. We hope you will join us in the Open this year.
