Workout of the Day

Not Even Close

I’d like to take a moment to recognize that we are not even close to peak potential. The “we” of the fitness realm -- coaches, gym owners, writers, educators, etc. -- have barely even scratched the surface of what we can do in the world. To put an arbitrary number on it, I’d say we’re lucky if we’re even 1% there.

I know this because I see the condition of our population. As a whole, we are sick, dissatisfied, minimally functional, and altogether unsure and confused about health and fitness. Sure, we’re living longer than we did 200 years ago, but we’re growing less functional, more dependent, and we’re still missing the mark on human potential. I don’t want to be dramatic here, but it’s a crisis.

This is a reminder of where we can and need to go. To say that lives depend on it is absolutely cliche and absolutely true.
We, the coaches, gym owners, writers, educators, etc., need to do better. I can assure you that we are trying, but I can also assure you that it’s not yet good enough. But this call to action extends beyond those whose career revolves around health and fitness. This is your game, too. This is your chance to be the advocate, the ambassador, the friend. We’re putting in the time to up our game, but we need you on our side.

We think this fitness stuff is pretty great. Let’s see how well we can all share it.
