Non-linear

temp-post-image

Good news, this post isn’t about the gritty details of non-linear regression analysis.

Bad news, your progress in life will not be linear, and sometimes that’s rough.

In an ideal world, as input (effort) continues, results go up in a nice straight line. Applied to fitness, this looks like continued progress into infinity in an even and predictable way. In the real world, the line is not straight, it won’t always be trending up, and you might need a roadmap just to follow it. Simply put, you’ll have good days and bad. Sometimes they’ll make perfect sense (“I only got three hours of sleep last night, it makes sense that I’m struggling with this weight today”); other times, you’ll be doing everything “right” and still run into a bad day. Remembering that this is normal is important in the moment. Equally important is the ability to zoom out and look at the larger trend. Your path to betterment may look like a rollercoaster with its share of aggressive peaks and drops, but if the line continues to trend up, you’re on the right track.

Humans are messy, but that’s half the fun. Enjoy the twisted, unpredictable rollercoaster that is your growth!
