No Such Thing As Bad Weather

temp-post-image

There’s an old Swedish saying: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.”

Aside from affirming the Swede’s winter-worthy hardiness, this saying is a reminder that between stimulus and outcome, there is a very important and often-ignored space where choice exists. If the weather is cold and you’ve chosen to wear shorts and sandals, you will be cold. If the weather is cold and you’ve put on your wool socks, boots, and a down jacket, you will be warm. In other words, it’s not the weather’s fault.

It’s that simple, and also it’s not, because life’s not always as simple as the weather. But let’s not play the game of blaming the weather (literally and figuratively) for our problems. The weather and everything else that’s out of your control will be whatever it is. It is not good or bad, it is. What determines the outcome is how you choose to respond to it. Prepare for the weather, and you can enjoy it, no matter how the forecast looks.
