About 6 years ago I decided to make a commitment to sharing ideas through our blog. My hope was to provide a new level of inspiration and insight to whoever read the blog. I had just returned from a business development trip and I was motivated to take on this new challenge. There was one unavoidable obstacle though, I really didn’t enjoy writing. I spent the next few years stumbling through this commitment I made to myself. Good days or bad days...I would write a blog post and share it on the internet. There were nights that I would fall asleep at the computer trying to get an idea out and there were days that the ideas flowed freely. It was difficult to find inspiration in the first year and I really struggled.
Inspiration is the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. What I came to understand that despite being so easily distracted, that when I found inspiration the process of writing became so much easier. Obviously this is not a new concept. Artists, creators, dreamers, builders have been searching for inspiration as long as time itself. Over the last three years, I discovered that my success in writing or anything for that matter has far less to do with finding something or learning something. I realized that I need not only to surround myself with inspiring ideas, people, etc. but most importantly I needed to put a lot more effort into creating the inspiration I so desperately wanted to find.
Getting back to daily writing is something I have talked about for a while now. As the days of social isolation pass, I am reminded of this every time I open my keyboard in an attempt to put my thoughts to paper. It’s still not easy like I want it to be. I still find myself searching for inspiration rather than creating it. Each day I get a reminder that I need to practice more than ever. The discipline that this requires creates its own practice...I just need to commit to practice.
Get out there and practice...live inspired!
See you out there.
