We can all agree that soda isn’t healthy, right?
Not so fast.
What if you’re 70 miles into a 100 mile ultramarathon and your body is in desperate need of calories, but you’re having a hard time taking in solid foods? Soda, in this case, may be healthier than not soda.
Of course, this is a hyper-specific example -- an exception to the rule. Of course you should avoid soda 99.99% of the time. Of course a salmon filet and a big pile of vegetables is generally a better choice than a pepperoni pizza. But it cannot be overstated that “healthy,” “unhealthy,” “good,” “bad,” etc. are individualized and context-specific qualities.
Your nutritional success will depend on developing a nutritional plan that is a) based on your individual context and goals, and b) sustainable. There is no one-size-fits-all.
