Breathing: Science Meets Practice

temp-post-image

It’s no secret that I think there’s a lot to be gained from paying attention to and applying direct training to your breathing, and if you’ve been following along for a while, you may have heard about (or even been a participant in) research I’ve been conducting as part of my studies at Cal State Fullerton. The research examines, among other things, the relationship between breathing and anxiety, and relationships between aerobic performance and a number of breathing metrics. The study will act as a pilot to direct future research in the growing space of breathwork and mental and physical health, and to explore how your breathing is related to stress and anxiety.

This research is being conducted in collaboration with a research foundation that recently launched to the public -- the Health and Human Performance Foundation (HHP Foundation) -- that aims to direct research towards real and significant ways that we can affect human health and performance through practices such as breathwork. The foundation is currently collaborating with a number of researchers and universities to study other topics including gut health and aerobic fitness, breath training for firefighters, and more to come.

You can read more about our current collaboration with the HHP Foundation, as well as other collaborations HERE. Keep your eyes peeled and follow along -- you’re going to see some fascinating findings in this growing field soon!
