There is a lot of chaos swirling around the world these days. So much seems out of my control and I am keenly aware of the anxiety attacks looming around every corner. Today that chaos was paused, if just for a moment...with a visit to Target.
Earlier today I placed an online order for in-store pick up of a few supplies. Not too unusual. However, as my car pulled into the parking lot I was struck with the reminder of what crazy times we live in.
In a parking lot that holds hundreds of cars, there were maybe 20 parked cars...at most. I noticed a little trifecta of three cars all parked in a way that their open trunks faced each other. In each trunk sat a woman (age unknown #masks) wrapped up in their sweatpants and each with a blanket. I realized after a moment that this was a very intentional meetup and one that never would have happened had it not been for the current situation. Three women made a very intentional decision to pause life and connect with each other in the Target parking lot on a Sunday evening.
A place where you fight to get the best spot possible, to go into a store and spend way to much time and money on things you really don't need. We all share experiences where life becomes so busy and hectic that we forget what is truly important. It is easy to get caught up in some false narrative we’ve created about our “needs.” All of that became a backstory, one we’ve all been tired of for a long time. A new story of intention and connection was told this evening in that vast blacktopped expanse.
My eyes met one of the women's and I was grateful I hadn't put my mask on yet so she could see me smile at her. I hope she got my message of appreciation. As some of these experiences become our new “normal,” I hope we remember to hold on to these precious moments and to realize the potential we all have to move with more intention and humanity amidst the current chaos.
See you out there. #developyourself
